The Scholarship Luncheon held annually during the Education Conference, is always the highlight of the conference for TACA and its membership. It recognizes TACA supporters among the State’s Judiciary, and awards TACA members, scholarships to further and enhance their professional careers.

On October 24, 2002, TACA recognized the Honorable James A. Baker, Justice, Supreme Court of Texas, for his support and continuous belief in TACA and the administration of justice. Justice Baker’s term on the Supreme Court of Texas will expire December 31, 2002. He is a Judicial Advisory Board member for TACA and he served as the Supreme Court’s liaison for court administration.

TACA further recognized the Honorable Marilyn Aboussie, Chief Justice of the Third Court of Appeals, by naming her Honorary Member of the association. Chief Justice Aboussie also serves as a member of the Judicial Advisory Board. She has been a strong and dedicated supporter of the association.

The highly coveted Barrow Award for 2002, was awarded to Ms. Cynthia S. De Jean, Court Coordinator, 133rd District Court, Houston. Cynthia is a former member of the Board of Directors, faculty member for the Professional Development Program. She is a graduate of the Institute of Court Management and she was a conference speaker for this year’s Annual Education Conference.
Other scholarships awarded were the Honorable Paul Ferguson Scholarship, to Grace Herrera, Court Coordinator, 168th District Court, El Paso, in the amount of $750; and, the Honorable Jack Dillard Scholarship, to Aurora I. Zamora, Court Administrator, 38th District Court, Uvalde, also, in the amount of $750.
